Fundació Catalana Síndrome de Down (FCSD), far from pursuing new dedicated infrastructures for people with Down Syndrome (DS), believes that all people with learning disabilities can find a place in society, given
individualized support.
1999
- 15th Anniversary of FCSD. Memorial lecture on “Development and ageing in people with Down Syndrome” by Prof. Ira Lott of the University of California at Irvine, USA.
- Preparation and Social Skills Service (PAS) set up. Subsuming the Youth Autonomy Program, PAS prepares and trains young adults with DS to develop their social skills, while promoting and encouraging leisure activities.
- “SD-DS International Medical Journal on Down Syndrome” indexed in EMBASE/Excerpta Medica and Índice Médico Español (IME).
- VII International Conference on Down Syndrome: Becoming an adult.
XV Aniversario de la FCSD. Conferencia conmemorativa: “El proceso de
desarrollo y envejecimiento de la persona con SD, a cargo del Profesor Ira
Lott de la Universidad de California, en Irvine, USA.
1998
- External Relations and Marketing Service set up.
- Early Intervention Service becomes public, free service. In 2001 will be renamed Centre for Child Development and Early Intervention.
- Official closing of projects funded by the TV3 telethon.
- Specific growth and weight curves drawn up for local children with DS, on the basis of the FCSD database.
1997
- Síndrome de Down. Articles i Resums Científics per a Professionals now published under a new masthead (“SD-DS International Medical Journal on Down Syndrome”.) and extended to include new sections, it’s tri-annual. Published in Spanish and Catalan, with English-language abstracts. Since 2002, the revue has been entirely available on the internet in these three languages.
- I International Conference on Chromosome 21 and Medical Research on Down Syndrome, including presentation of the results of research projects funded by the 1993 TV3 telethon. Of particular interest: an FCSD-produced database of over 1600 clinical histories and gene maps of various regions in chromosome 21.
1996
- “Col•labora” Job Integration Service set up, based on the conviction that job integration in firms should receive natural support. On-the-job apprenticeship aimed at employment with the same firm. Addressed to people with all kinds of learning difficulties.
- First group for siblings of people with DS. Therapy and consideration of relevant issues.
- FCSD website set up. Own domain – www.fcsd.org – since 1999.
1995
- II Master’s Degree Course in Early Intervention.
- VI International Conference on Down Syndrome: People with Down Syndrome moving towards adulthood.
