Fundació Catalana Síndrome de Down (FCSD), far from pursuing new dedicated infrastructures for people with Down Syndrome (DS), believes that all people with learning disabilities can find a place in society, given individualized support.

1994

  • 10th Anniversary of FCSD. Keynote lecture by Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Director General of UNESCO, on “Education for All in the Year 2000”.
  • 10 research projects initiated using the funds collected in the 1993 telethon. X Aniversario de la FCSD.

1993

  • Catalonia 92 Public Relations Award granted to FCSD by the Catalan Association for Public Relations, for its achievements in publicity and communication.
  • The TV3 telethon. Funds collected for research on chromosome 21, “to gain further knowledge of chromosome-21 dysfunction and prevent or palliate the effects of excess genetic material”.
  • V International Conference on Down Syndrome: Relating to others to build an identity. Medical and psychopedagogical advances

1992

  • Creu de Sant Jordi awarded by the Government of Catalonia to Mrs. Montserrat Trueta, Chair of the FCSD Board, for her outstanding work for social integration of people with disabilities.
  • The second graduate course is endorsed by the Health Sciences Division of the University of Barcelona and becomes a “Master’s Degree in Early Intervention”.

1991

  • Open classroom II. Reinforcing and extending Open classroom I.
  • IV International Conference on Down Syndrome: Becoming autonomous.

1990

  • Open classroom I. An exchange forum for teachers in mainstream schools that have pupils with DS. An event open to all teachers, held annually since inception.
  • Graduate course now organised jointly with the Department of Basic Psychology and the Department of Personality, Assessment and Treatment at the University of Barcelona. Course duration extended from 45 classroom hours to 2 years.
